                    Biography

Elman Mecid, born in Ankara in 1996, comes from a family of musicians. He started his music education in the Piano Department of Bilkent University’s Music Preparatory School in 2002. Between 2006 and 2014, he studied under Aydın Mecid in the Percussion Department.

Elman performed as soloist with the Bilkent Symphony, Presidential Symphony, Eskişehir Anadolu Symphony, Azerbaijan State Symphony and Plovdiv Symphony orchestras. He gave two concerts at the İstanbul International Music Festival in 2014. He joined the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in concerts in many countries. In 2016, he played Emmanuel Sejourne’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. He performed with the Hamburg Percussion Ensemble in numerous concerts across Germany. Elman gave a recital at the Bilkent Theatre Hall in 2018. He was featured as  a soloist in five concert tour of Germany with the Landes Youth Symphony Orchestra Hessen.

 

Elman Mecid has won numerous awards, including the first prize at the Pendim International Percussion Instruments Competition (Bulgaria, 2009); the fourth prize at the Nutcracker International Young Talents Competition (Russia, 2009); the first and third prizes in two different branches at the Giornate della Percussione international competition (Italy, 2010); the second prize at the Perkulliria International Percussion Competition (Valencia, Spain, 2011); the first prize and the jury’s special prize at the Marimba Festiva International Competition (Nürnberg, Germany, 2012); the first prize in the AG3 category of Bamberg Marimba Festiva International Competititon; concert prize, the Sonderpreis des Bayerischen Rundfunks; the special Marimba One Exellency Award by Katarzyna Mycka; IKMMA 2019 International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy active participation prize; and Best Interpretation of the Obligatory Piece Jeremy Brunk prize (Germany, 2018).

 

He worked with acclaimed artists such as Leigh Howard Stevens, Emmanuel Sejourne, Massimo Drecshler, Stephan Curlis, Marta Klimasara, Keiko Abe, Robert van Sice, Katarzyna Mycka.

 

Mecid also received the Aydın Gün Incentive Award of the Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation. He won a scholarship from the Azerbaijani Presidency in 2016 and was included in the Golden Book of Azerbaijan. 

Elman Mecid is continuing his postgraduate studies with Prof. Cornelia Monske at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre in Hamburg.
